Do you avoid going to the dentist because the experience makes you feel extremely anxious?
At York Mills Dental, we offer patients nitrous oxide sedation, also known as "laughing gas", to help you relax during your dental visits.
Nitrous oxide is mixed with oxygen and administered through a mask that we place over your nose. From approximately 30 seconds to 5 minutes breathing in the gas, you will start to feel relaxed and calm. You may feel light-headed or a tingling in your arms and legs. Once the gas is in effect, we will begin your dental procedure. You will remain conscious the entire time, breathing on your own, and will be able to respond to conversation. Because nitrous oxide allows your body and mind to relax, Dr. Ching and her dental team is able to work more efficiently and you are less likely to experience jaw stiffness or other post-procedure discomfort.
Once we have completed the procedure, we will give you oxygen to breathe for around 5 minutes. By then, the nitrous oxide should wear off and you will be able to drive or do other activities on your own with no residual dizziness.
We would recommend nitrous oxide sedation for people who:
